Leptobrachium rakhinensis - Rakhine Litter Frog



This species is very rare. It inhabits inland wetlands and evergreen forests of low elevation hills of Myanmar, Bangladesh (Chittagong), and India (Assam), at elevations ranging between 600m and 900m.

This species is listed as Endangered in the IUCN Red List of Threatened Species (https://www.iucnredlist.org/).


According to the IUCN Red List assessment, the population of the species is declining. Its current population size is unknown. Its Extent of Occurrence is 4,538 sq km (IUCN SSC Amphibian Specialist Group). The threat to its persistence comes from habitat degradation due shifting agriculture and logging.
