This species is listed as Critically Endangered in the IUCN Red List of Threatened Species (https://www.iucnredlist.org/).
This species is extremely rare and is mainly found in evergreen hilly areas of South India such as Munnar (Kerala) and Annamalai hills (Tamil Nadu), at the heights of 1400m above sea level. It is nocturnal and mostly habits on trees.
Conservation Status:
According to the IUCN Red List assessment, the population of this species is declining since last century. It was rediscovered after 125 years and is commonly seen in the localities of Munnar. The threat to its persistence comes from habitat degradation due to conversion of forests into non-timber plantations.
